The Air Force Security Forces Specialist is tasked with providing force protection duties, guarding weapons, air bases and Air Force personnel from possible dangers. The Security Force's main goal is to keep the people, planes, base, weapons (even nuclear), and the surrounding area safe from any threat, including the intrusion by unauthorized people. The primary duties of Air Force Security Forces include detecting hostile forces, investigating criminal activity and accidents, controlling and securing terrain inside and outside of the base, and defending Air Force resources, personnel, and installations. Additional duties may include leading, managing, supervising, and performing SF activities, such as installation, weapon system, and resource security; leading, managing, supervising, and performing force protection duties, including up to the use of deadly force to protect personnel and resources, and protecting nuclear weapons and other high-value assets.

Security Forces airmen are tasked with providing force protection duties, guarding weapons, air bases and Air Force personnel from possible dangers. The Security Forces main goal is to keep the people, planes, base, weapons (even nuclear), and the surrounding area safe from any threat, including the intrusion by unauthorized people. Security force members are essentially the military police within the Air Force and the branch's first line of defense. They keep the peace at all Air Force Bases around the world. This is a career field that could lead to the civilian job of police officer, or other security personnel.
