As a Public Health specialist in the 4E0X1 career field, you will play a critical role in promoting and protecting the health of Air Force personnel and the surrounding community. Your responsibilities will include conducting public health assessments, implementing disease prevention and control measures, and providing health education and promotion. This position demands expertise in public health principles, knowledge of environmental health, and the ability to work in diverse healthcare settings.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Health Assessments: Conduct public health assessments to identify and evaluate potential health hazards and risks. Perform inspections of facilities, food establishments, water systems, and waste management practices. Collect and analyze data on environmental factors and occupational health hazards. Recommend appropriate measures to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

2. Disease Prevention and Control: Implement disease prevention and control measures to minimize the spread of communicable diseases and outbreaks. Collaborate with healthcare providers, epidemiologists, and infection control personnel to develop and implement strategies for disease surveillance, monitoring, and response. Conduct investigations and contact tracing in coordination with public health agencies.

3. Health Education and Promotion: Provide health education and promotion activities to enhance the wellness and resilience of Air Force personnel. Develop and deliver health education programs, presentations, and workshops on topics such as nutrition, fitness, sexual health, stress management, and tobacco cessation. Collaborate with community resources to promote healthy lifestyle choices.

4. Environmental Health: Monitor and assess environmental factors that may impact the health and well-being of Air Force personnel. Conduct evaluations of air quality, noise levels, hazardous materials, and radiation exposure. Recommend preventive measures and interventions to minimize environmental health risks. Collaborate with occupational health and safety personnel to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

5. Emergency Response: Support public health emergency response efforts, including disaster preparedness and response planning. Assist in coordinating medical support, public health surveillance, and resource allocation during emergencies and natural disasters. Participate in emergency response drills and exercises to ensure readiness and coordination.

6. Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret public health data to identify trends, assess health risks, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. Utilize public health databases and software tools to track and monitor disease surveillance, immunization rates, and other health indicators. Prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.

7. Policy and Compliance: Assist in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and guidelines related to public health. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health regulations. Stay updated on emerging public health issues, research, and best practices to inform policy development and decision-making.

8. Collaboration and Networking: Collaborate with military and civilian healthcare professionals, public health agencies, and community organizations to promote coordinated public health efforts. Participate in meetings, committees, and working groups to address public health priorities. Foster partnerships and networks to enhance public health initiatives and community outreach.

9. Training and Education: Stay updated on public health practices, guidelines, and emerging trends. Participate in training programs and continuing education to enhance knowledge and skills. Provide training to healthcare providers, military personnel, and community members on public health topics.

Qualifications:

- Completion of Air Force Public Health Apprentice course

- In-depth knowledge of public health principles, environmental health, and disease prevention strategies.

- Familiarity with health assessments, disease surveillance, and public health emergency response.

- Strong communication and presentation skills to effectively educate and promote health among diverse populations.

- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting using public health databases and software tools.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
