Airmen describing Combat Control

Combat Control (CCT) in the Air Force is a highly specialized career field that is part of the Special Tactics Team. Combat Control Teams (CCT) provide air traffic control, direction for air drops, and forward air control for air-to-ground operations. They are also trained in airfield seizure, reconnaissance and surveillance, and other special operations tactics.

A typical day for a CCT member may involve:

  • Conducting reconnaissance and surveillance of airfields and drop zones to determine their suitability for landing and takeoff operations

  • Controlling aircraft traffic and directing aircraft to safe landing and takeoff zones

  • Coordinating and controlling air-to-ground operations, including calling in airstrikes and adjusting artillery fire

  • Participating in training, drills, and exercises to maintain and improve skills in air traffic control, airfield seizure, and other special operations tactics

  • Providing guidance and training to other Air Force personnel on CCT tactics and procedures

  • Participating in classified and unclassified meetings with other CCT team members and other agencies

  • Participating in military operations, including airfield seizure, reconnaissance and surveillance, and other special operations

It's important to note that depending on the specific role, a typical day may also include different responsibilities. CCT teams are highly trained, versatile, and specialized airmen who are capable of operating in remote, austere and hostile environments.
