As an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialist in the 3E8X1 career field, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of military personnel, installations, and civilians by detecting, identifying, and disposing of explosive devices and hazardous materials. Your responsibilities will include assessing and neutralizing explosive threats, conducting bomb disposal operations, and providing technical expertise and support in explosive safety matters. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, a high level of technical skill, and the ability to work effectively in high-stress situations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Explosive Threat Mitigation: Detect, locate, assess, and neutralize explosive threats, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs), unexploded ordnance (UXO), and other hazardous materials. Utilize specialized equipment, techniques, and procedures to identify and mitigate potential dangers. Conduct risk assessments and recommend appropriate actions to neutralize threats safely.

2. Bomb Disposal Operations: Safely and effectively dispose of explosive devices using specialized tools, procedures, and protective gear. Conduct controlled detonations and render safe procedures to mitigate potential hazards. Coordinate with law enforcement agencies, military units, and other stakeholders to ensure the safe disposal of explosive materials.

3. Technical Expertise: Provide expert advice and technical support in explosive safety matters. Conduct research and analysis to identify emerging threats, trends, and technologies related to explosive devices. Develop and implement procedures, protocols, and training programs to enhance explosive safety practices and knowledge within the unit.

4. Training and Education: Participate in training programs, exercises, and simulations to maintain and enhance proficiency in EOD operations. Train and educate military personnel and civilian agencies on explosive safety practices, bomb threat response, and related procedures. Stay updated on advancements in explosive ordnance disposal techniques, equipment, and technologies.

5. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of EOD operations, including incident reports, disposal logs, and inventory records. Complete required documentation, including after-action reports, equipment maintenance logs, and safety assessments. Generate reports on EOD operations, findings, and recommendations to support ongoing mission requirements and improve future operations.

Qualifications:

- Completion of formal EOD training program (such as the U.S. Navy EOD School or the U.S. Army EOD School).

- In-depth knowledge of explosive devices, hazardous materials, and their characteristics.

- Proficiency in identifying and assessing explosive threats, including IEDs and UXO.

- Strong understanding of EOD procedures, tools, and protective equipment.

- Ability to operate specialized EOD equipment and tools effectively and safely.

- Exceptional attention to detail and situational awareness in high-stress environments.

- Effective communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with team members, military units, and other stakeholders.

- Physical fitness and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.

- U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance.
