Airmen describing Emergency Management

Emergency Management airmen are tasked with preparing wartime and contingency response plans, and with researching and developing disaster preparedness plans with the goal of minimizing casualties and damage from natural disasters, military operations (including war) and major accidents, such as plane crashes. They're part of the teams that coordinate responses during disaster relief operations, including mobilizing resources and government organizations. Emergency Management maintains and monitors civil engineer operations and plans, to assist with response and recovery operations, including assisting with contingency planning. They manage equipment and supplies and keep track of inventories. Another part of their duty includes conducting nuclear, biological and chemical detection and warning activities.

Emergency management in the Air Force is responsible for planning and preparing for, responding to, and recovering from natural and man-made disasters and emergencies that could occur on military bases and at Air Force facilities. This includes developing emergency plans, conducting drills and exercises, and training personnel in emergency response procedures. They also coordinate with local and state emergency management agencies, as well as other military and federal agencies, to ensure a coordinated response to an emergency. They may also provide assistance to other agencies during natural disasters and other emergency incidents. They also handle incident command system, risk management, and critical incident stress management.
