As a Dental Assistant in the 4Y0X1 career field, you will play a vital role in providing dental care and support to the United States Air Force. Your responsibilities will include assisting dental providers during patient examinations and treatments, maintaining dental records, and educating patients on oral hygiene. This position requires a strong knowledge of dental procedures, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality dental care.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care and Support: Assist dental providers in providing comprehensive dental care to patients. Prepare treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, and ensure a clean and organized dental environment. Prepare patients for dental procedures, including taking and recording vital signs. Provide chairside assistance during dental treatments, anticipating the needs of dental providers and ensuring patient comfort and safety.

2. Dental Records and Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date dental records for patients. Record patient information, treatment plans, and procedures performed in electronic dental record systems. Schedule follow-up appointments and coordinate with other dental specialists as needed. Ensure the confidentiality and security of patient information.

3. Dental Radiography: Perform dental radiographic procedures, including intraoral and extraoral imaging, using appropriate radiation safety protocols. Process and mount dental radiographs for interpretation by dental providers. Assist in the interpretation of radiographic images as directed by dental providers.

4. Patient Education: Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, including brushing, flossing, and nutrition. Provide instructions on post-treatment care and oral health maintenance. Answer patient questions and address concerns related to dental procedures and treatments. Promote preventive dental care practices.

5. Dental Supply and Equipment Management: Assist in managing dental supplies and equipment inventory. Order and maintain stock levels of dental materials, instruments, and supplies. Perform routine maintenance and sterilization of dental instruments and equipment. Coordinate with supply personnel to ensure timely procurement and availability of dental supplies.

Qualifications:

- U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a Secret security clearance.

- Successful completion of Basic Military Training and the Dental Assistant Apprentice Course.

- Knowledge of dental anatomy, procedures, and oral health concepts.

- Familiarity with dental instruments, materials, and equipment.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.

- Knowledge of infection control protocols and safety practices.

- Basic computer skills for data entry and record keeping.

- Ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion.
