Can I have a pet at Tech School?

Can you have a pet at Tech School?

Unfortunately, you are not allowed to have pets while at tech school. This is because you’ll be stationed in the dorms while at Tech School.

This also applies to duty stations as well. For the most part at least. The rules are slightly different once you are at a duty station. But the answer for Tech School is a pretty firm NO. You’re not even allowed a goldfish in a small bowl.

Here is a video on the Air Force Pet Policy.

If you’re single, meaning not married. and you have cats, dogs, or other animals, you'll have to leave them with a family member through Tech School and even while you're at your first base, until you can move out of the dorms. This can be anywhere from 4-12 months or sometimes longer.

If you’re married, you’ll also have to leave your pets at home with loved ones while in Tech School, but when you get stationed at your duty station, the Air Force will pay for you and your family to move there and you’ll be able to bring your pets.
