Air Force Fitness Requirements

FITNESS REQUIREMENTS

This is one of our favorite things to talk about on Airman Vision! If you’re interested in joining and getting physically fit for BMT then our BMT fitness prep guide is perfect for you to crush the PT standards before you even go to BMT! Before going to BMT however, you won’t be required to pass the PT test standards, but, it is highly recommended that you are physically fit before going.

The Air Force requires you to take 3 PT tests at BMT. Your first one is an initial assessment and doesn’t affect you if you fail. However, the PT test halfway through BMT and the one at the end of BMT you must pass or you can be held back a few weeks in training to give you time to improve your score. This means you won’t graduate on time and will get put into a new flight. It’s not fun for you or your family who had planned to go to your graduation because now they have to rebook plane tickets and hotels. This is why making sure you’re set up for success before you leave for BMT. Our BMT fitness prep guide will get you there before you leave so you won’t have to worry once you’re there.

After BMT you’ll have to take a PT test every 6 to 12 months depending on your score. If you score below a 90, you’ll test every 6 months, and if you score above a 90, you’ll test every 12 months. Basically, you are rewarded with having to test less if you do better. That is why it’s important that you take staying physically fit seriously.
