QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY (PER THE AIR FORCE WEBSITE)
High school diploma, GED with 15 college credits, or GED
Normal color vision
Possession of a valid state driver’s license to operate government motor vehicles
Completion of 8.5 weeks of Basic Military Training
Must be between the ages of 17 and 39
Technical Training: varies from 79-86 days
Technical School Location: Port Hueneme CA
Status Upon Completion of Technical School: CCAF Degree with credits earned towards Vehicle Maintenance.
Job Description: Vehicle Maintenance or VM, is being a mechanic. VM airmen troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Air Force vehicle assets. They work on a wide range of vehicles and equipment to include Ford F-250's, Caterpillar D6 Dozers, Volvo, John Deere, JCB, Chevrolet, and specialized military vehicles such as HMMWV (also known as Humvee's), LMTV's, MRAP's, and others. Typically, you will have a General Purpose shop (GP), a Special Purpose shop (SP), a Customer Service Center (CSC), Materiel Control Section (MatCon) and Allied Trades (Body Shop). Some locations will have other shops to service specific missions they are in charge of.
